An excursion through the heart of the Dolomites Natural Park is a must for those visiting this region of Italy.
Between charming villages and picturesque towns, there are innumerable places to visit: indeed, these beautiful locations are framed by a breathtaking mountain landscape.
Highlights
The spectacle of crystal-clear lake waters and pale mountains will remain etched in your memory forever. Indeed, visiting this UNESCO Heritage Site will leave you feeling overwhelmed by the beautiful scenery of the snowy peaks and the emerald green expanses.
A tour through these wonderful, natural locations can only start in Cortina d'Ampezzo, a renowned ski resort but also a summer tourist destination. Walking along the streets of the city known as the "Queen of the Dolomites", you can admire the majestic mountains of the Ampezzo Valley, with their delicate pink hues.
If you prefer to observe Cortina from above and its breathtaking views, you can take the Faloria cable car up to over 2000 metres above sea level: the view of the surrounding mountain landscape certainly will not leave you feeling indifferent.
Alternatively, descending to 1750 metres is Misurina Lake located in the homonymous village of Auronzo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno. In addition to being the largest in the entire Cadore mountain region, this natural alpine lake is enshrined in legend: in fact, it is said that the lake basin was filled by the tears of a princess.
Whilst exploring the Dolomites, another mandatory stop is at the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The wonderful formation of the Sexten Dolomites is located 2300 metres above sea level and offers a spectacular viewpoint. In fact from here, you can observe and photograph the Marmarole and Sorapiss Dolomite mountain peaks.
This area is also ideal for those who love relaxing walks and those who want to take a refreshing break. Lastly, passing through the enchanting mountain villages you will reach the artificial lake of Auronzo: this basin is also known as Santa Caterina Lake because of the small chapel at the bottom of the dam.
In short, the Dolomites Natural Park is a genuinely natural paradise that offers visitors countless opportunities for discovery and the prospect of recreation and relaxation.
