Walking tour in Venice
- Codice Tour: T1
- Id Tour: 1
Stroll through Venice and immerse yourself in the history of this ancient and glorious city.
A visit to the historic town centre of Venice will allow you to discover the oldest and most hidden corners of this city built on water. Walk through the narrow streets among the canals, breathe in the atmosphere of Venice's fascinating history: a melting pot of cultures and commerce, a window on the world that united the West and the East. By choosing this tour you will have the opportunity to admire the famous St Mark's Square overlooking St Mark's Basilica along with the Doge's Palace, the Bell Tower and the Clock Tower. All these monuments are silhouetted against a magical horizon encircling the square, allowing you to enjoy a unique atmosphere just a few metres from the sea lapping the square and offering a very impressive panorama. During your walk you will also encounter the Church of Santa Maria La Formosa, next to which you can immerse yourself in the Campo, one of the liveliest and most bustling squares in Venice. Continuing on your tour, your gaze will come to rest on the Basilica of Saints Giovanni and Paolo and its Campo. The famous church is known as the Pantheon of Venice because a large number of Venetian Doges and celebrities have been buried there over the centuries. Here you will learn about the heroic deeds of the Captains of fortune and the description of the Scuole di Carità (charitable institutions) that made Venice famous during the Middle Ages. You will then reach the home of Marco Polo and the Malibran Theatre, a meeting place for ancient and more recent traditions, a corner in which you will feel incredibly close to the eternal glory of the Republic of Venice. Lastly you will return to St Mark's Square by strolling along the main shopping street of Venice, the Mercerie, which connects Rialto to St Mark's and allows you to fully immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of the historic town centre.
