Gondola Ride

Let yourself be lulled by the canals of the historic Republic of Venice
Another option for anyone wishing to experience Venice might be to do it by boat. To tell the truth, this should indeed be the only solution: Venice is a city built on the sea, and so anyone wanting to discover its true identity must use this means of transport that has been the city's most distinctive trait throughout history. And what better means to use than the slender and elegant boat which is typical of the Venice lagoon? The gondola is both unique and fascinating, exactly like the city it was created in. As tradition has it, parts of the gondola still bear very particular names that sound at once both fabulous and mysterious. For example, the shipyard where gondolas are made bears a wonderfully arcane name, the "squèro". (shipyard).
Although the origin of this word is rather ambiguous, one thing is certain: in a Venice built on a tangle of islands and canals, the art of building boats was vital and the "squèri" sprang up across the city in a very short time. The profession of gondolier developed organically along with the art of gondola building. The gondolier has become part of Venice's collective consciousness for the elegance with which he manoeuvres the vessel's single oar and his ability to animate the smooth flowing movement of its frame, turning into a veritable stereotype. These are men of strong character, who celebrate the happy life of great food, drink and laughter. This tour essentially offers a suggestive water route through the Grand Canal and the canals of Venice, moving by gondola across the lagoon while enjoying the privileged experience of admiring Venice from the vantage point of the water.
